Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Comes to Thrilling Conclusion; Champions Top the 2024 Leaderboard

The chutes are empty, the dust settled and buckles awarded to this year’s Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo winners. 16 contestants in each event competed in two-rounds of semifinals to determine the top four money earners from each who would advance to the Championship Final round.

The Championship took place Saturday night at the Dickies Arena in Ft. Worth, offering contestants one final shot, just one more loop or one more 8-second ride, to earn the title of FWSS Tournament Champion.

Here’s Your 2024 FWSS Champs:

Bareback

2x NFR qualifier Rocker Steiner on J Bar J’s, Straight Stick for 92.5.

Rocker won both rounds of the first bracket way back on January 19th with an 87, advancing to the semifinals where he again won the first round with a 90.5 to advance to the finals.

Rocker now sits 5th in the 2024 Bareback Ram World Standings!

Steer Wrestling

4x NFR qualifier Tanner Brunner and NFR qualifier Dalton Massey tied with a 3.7 second run to split the win.

Brunner won the first round of bracket 7 with a 3.9. Massey won both rounds of bracket 5 with a 3.4 and 4.5. Brunner and Massey also tied in the semifinals to split third with a 4.4 second run.

Massey now sits first in the 2024 World Standings, Brunner third!

Team Roping

2x World Champion Header and 9x NFR qualifier, Clay Smith and heeler Coleby Payne roped for a 4.5 seconds, just edging out Brenten Hall and Kaden Profili’s 4.6 to take the championship title.

Smith and Payne won the first round of bracket 6, then placed second in the first round of the semifinals with a 4.8 second run.

Smith and Payne are now top of the leaderboard, sitting first in the 2024 World Standings!

Saddle Bronc

NFR qualifier Damian Brennan on Andrew Rodeo’s, All or Nothing for 91.5.

Brennan is the only 2024 FWSS Champion who did not automatically advance to the semifinals. He qualified for the wildcard round in bracket 7; only a top two finish in the wildcard round would earn Brennan a spot in the semis. Brennan won the wildcard round with an 89.5, then won the first round of the semifinals with an 89.

Brennan is now first in the 2024 World Standings!

Tie Down

2020 World Champion and 5x NFR qualifier, Shad Mayfield with a 7.8 second run.

Mayfield won the first round of bracket 7 with an 8.3 second run, then won the second round of the semifinals with a 7.5.

Mayfield is now first in the 2024 World Standings!

Barrel Racing

Minnesota cowgirl Sarah Winkelman raced past NFR qualifiers and world champions to win with a 16.4 second run.

Winkelman won the second round of bracket 2 with a 16.48 second run and won the second round of the semifinals with a 16.26. Winkelman was unranked in 2024 prior to the FWSS.

Winkelman’s win should now place her within the top 10!

Bull Riding

2012 World Champion and 6x NFR qualifier, Cody Teel rode Rafter G Rodeo’s, Goin Brandon for 87, one of only two qualified rides of the championship final round. T Parker rode for 84.

Teel won the first round of bracket 6 with an 85.5, and received a no-score in the semifinals, only making the finals due to his winnings thus-far.

Teel now sits second in the 2024 World Standings!

Breakaway

NFBR qualifier Danielle Lowman roped a single hundredth-of-a-second faster than Rickie Fanning’s 1.9 to win with a lightning fast 1.8 second run.

Lowman split the first go-round win of bracket 7 with a 1.8 second run, won the second round of the bracket with a 1.6, then placed fourth in the semifinals with a 3.0. Lowman was ranked 67th in 2024 prior to the FWSS.

Lowman’s win should now place her within the top 10!

Rodeo Rapid City

South Dakota’s Rodeo Rapid City may not boast the million dollar payout of the FWSS, but the 5x PRCA Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year offers enough in winnings to make an impact on the World Standings, and is a must-hit winter-run rodeo for contestants.
